By default, MOST iOS devices are using the HEIC (High Efficiency Image Coding) format for saving photos. This is PROBLEMATIC when sending photos to other people, for example taking a picture of an I.T. issue, or more importantly, attaching files to an ePCR.
HEIC is not widely supported by other devices and platforms. While Apple devices can natively open and display HEIC files, most Windows and Mac computers, Android phones, and web browsers cannot. This means that if you want to view or edit your HEIC photos on a non-Apple device, you will need to convert them to JPEG or another compatible format first. This can be time-consuming and inconvenient, and may also result in some loss of quality or features. Another disadvantage of using HEIC is that it may not be compatible with some applications or services that require JPEG format, such as photo printing or uploading to social media.
You can change the default format of your photos on your iPhone or iPad by going to:
- Settings > Camera > Formats and selecting either High Efficiency (HEIC) or Most Compatible (JPEG).
