Here’s your new Mercy Flight cell phone!
If you are UPGRADING, or REPLACING an existing iPhone, there are some important steps you need to take, as our phones are automatically entered into a mobile device management system, PLEASE READ
If this is your first phone assignment, skip to Step(s) 2.
- On your OLD phone
- Check and see if you have an Apple account (Settings>Apple account)
- If you DO, make sure to do a backup, including contacts, messages, etc
- If you DON’T, consider making a free account, and doing a backup, as these don’t always transfer fully…
- Check and see if you have an Apple account (Settings>Apple account)
- On your NEW phone
- Make sure you have Wi-Fi available; setup needs it.
- Use the 877.807.4646 Verizon number to activate the phone (see Verizon handout)
- Power on, and start setup
- The iPhone will automatically want to enroll in the Mercy Flight Simple MDM, make sure you enroll. When prompted for location services, allow while using app
- You can try and use the transfer from other device option to retrieve data from old phone, if applicable
- You will be able to enter your Apple account information, if you have one, this is the most reliable way of transferring data and settings
- At some point, after your data is set, etc, please go to Settings>Privacy&Security>Location Services and find SimpleMDM. Change setting to Always Allow
What is SimpleMDM?
SimpleMDM is a device management system, that allows Mercy Flight to manage and track devices. All company iPhones and iPads get enrolled, and this is what we use to make all of the field crew phones and ipads look, and behave the same. It also contains restrictions, permissions, and other settings we control.
For “administrative” enrollments, like Office staff, supervisors, etc, we use a much less restrictive permission set, so that you can pretty much use your phone the way you want. If lost, we can track it, send audible “find me” tones, disable, etc etc. We do not routinely track the device, we just request a location if lost/stolen etc. we can also push apps and media to phone, for example if we were to ever have a Mercy Flight app, we could send it to all devices 😊
If you prefer to have I.T. on the line when you set up, please don’t hesitate to call me (from a landline or separate cell phone, obviously), and We’ll be happy to work through it with you!
